The average temperature in Bangkok usually ranges from 17 degrees Celsius (Dec.) to 36 degrees Celsius (April). Through most of the country, the hottest months are April to May. Rainy season is approximately June to Oct. except in Koh Samui which has its wet season from Oct. to March. In the highland regions, temperatures can drop dramatically. The coolest season is from Nov to Feb.
    Trading hours are usually from 10 am to 8 pm although some of the smaller shops tend to open earlier and close later. A bargain hunter's paradise, there are numerous stalls with a diversity of items ranging from clothing (Thai silk and cotton are very popular) to attractive souvenier giftware from teakwood carvings, bronze ornaments and leather products. Thailand is also famous for good buys in semi-precious stones like sapphires, pearls, rubies and zircons.
     
     
     
     
Passport & Visas:   Getting Around:
  A valid passport is required which means it does not expire before date of departure from Thailand. Australian citizens visiting for less than 30 days do not require a visa but air ticket must have a confirmed onward reservation.     All areas in Thailand are serviced by busses, trains and airlines. Bangkok has plenty of taxis and water taxis. Tuk tuks (three-wheeled motorized vehicles) are abundant. These are good for quick short trips around the city. Fares however, are negotiated with the driver in advance. There are also the famous long-tailed boats that can be hired from the river wharves.
     
     
Airport Tax:    
  This is usually included in the ticket from Australia to the international equivalent of 500 Baht. There is a charge of 30 Baht per outgoing passenger on domestic flights in Thailand.      
    Health:
Currency:     Vaccinations may be recommended so please see your local doctor before travelling. Although no actuall vaccinations are presently required for persons visiting Thailand, those suffering from leprosy, trachoma, tuberculosis and AIDS are forbidden entry.
  Thai baht is the local currency. Hotels, licensed money changers and banks are open from 8.30 am to 3.30 pm Monday to Friday. Most banks have mini-branches that trade evenings & weekends.

  It is unsafe to drink tap water. Bottled water is advisable to drink.     220 Volts, 50 cycles
