  Situated on the Eastern coast and about halfway between Vietnam's North and South extremities is the city of Hue, the former imperial capital of Vietnam. Today, Hue is a cultural and learning centre with its own university and some important monuments to Vietnamese history. The Emperor's tombs and majestic Thein Mu Pagoda are amongst the historical places you will want to see. For scenery and rugged natural beauty, the Hai Van Pass near Hue is a must see.  
 
 
 
 
  Immediately obvious in Hanoi is the French influence, from the wide tree lined boulevards to the imposing French architecture. Cyclo is the best way of getting around this bustling town and a great way to visit the old quarter which has a character of its own. Hanoi is also known for its lovely parks and lakes near which can be the popular Water Puppet Theatre.
 
 
 
 
  Not to be missed, this is one of Vietnam's most famous attractions. There are over 3000 incredible limestone peaks (islands), numerous caves and grottos to be explored. With a reputation of one of Asia's natural wonders, Halong Bay is a World Heritage listed site.
